Living, as I do, in relative proximity to a capital-c City, it's amazing to me how many places in the US you can look for a plot of land and go "Huh, okay, $40k feels a *little* pricey just for a plot out here. Wait, it's 10+ acres? And includes a small house?".
(This may be a sightly contrived example, as I only ran into like two of those this evening, and usually the buildings aren't something you'd necessarily want to live in permanently, but even so. Prices vary *wildly*.)
