Do you or anyone you know want a 16-computer VGA + PS/2 KVM?
It's https://www.iogear.com/product/GCS1716/ , though I think I only have 12 sets of cables for some reason. I believe it works, but I haven't honestly tested it in many years.
Yours for the cost of shipping from the US midwest.
Reading things labeled as "takes" ("hot", "cold", or otherwise) often feels like "X take: [...]" could instead be read "fundamental attribution error: [...]".
Like, not *always*, but it often seems like a "this is how it seems to me, and I'm not that interested in what anyone else's experience is", and... I'm not a huge fan of that. (I'm very possibly interested in your opinion and experience! I just don't know that they're the only ones that are valid.)
The benefit of flagrantly "probably queer" hair on Amtrak was that on the first two trains, the person I'd identified as the most evidently queer on the train has at some point ended up taking a seat next to me.
(Which is cool, because I vaguely want to talk to those folks, but lack the guts to actually sit down next to them and start a conversation, and if half happens without my doing, that's nice.)
hair removal, robots
Why *don't* we have delta robots for electrolysis?
All the components exist individually, so you should be able to clamp down several square inches of skin to keep them from moving, have an operator okay each detected follicle, and let the robot do its thing, several at a time.
Would still take a few minutes per area, but that's loads faster than anything else.
(Sure, "let a robot stick electrified needles in me" is a high bar, but that much moreso than a human?)
🎉 Inform 7 will be open-sourced* some time in 2019: http://emshort.com/narrascope/talk.html . Yay!

phone calls, question
What do other people do for phone calls with people they don't know (generally businesses in my case)?
I mock up a script and little blanks to fill in with any questions I have in a text file, but I just realized that this is probably unusual, so now I'm curious about what other folks do.
subtooting nobody here, vague complain, cops-adj
Sorry, literal Facebook-employee straight cis bro with a history of being dismissive of marginalized people's concerns. You probably shouldn't wade into a discussion among queer folks about why they might not want to involve cops in something by leading off with how they're all wrong.
uspol, long, + / pos, mentions bad things, possibly controversial
I like living in the United States of America, and I support the USA.
I do not support literally everything done in the name of the country, nor do I think anyone does. Holding children in concentration camps is clearly wrong; systemic discrimination against various groups is also obviously bad. But I don't feel that the best way to fix them is to abandon the country because some jerks are doing bad things on its behalf.
Stonewall was a riot. But Stonewall happened here.
The March on Washington was a protest. But the March happened here.
The move to ban slavery caused a literal civil war. But it happened here.
We did those things. And we are better for them.
Is everything excellent? No.
Have we started wars? Yes.
Have we oppressed large populations? Yes.
Have we failed to make reparations for that oppression? Yes.
Even so, do I think things are *better than they were*? Yes.
Do I think we have a long way to go? Yes.
Do I think we can continue to make things better? Yes.
If you think that we can't improve, then that's on you.
I think we can.
I think it'll take work.
And I support people in their efforts to do so.
Happy 4th of July.
mh (not mine, nonnegative, long ago)
Every now and then, I think back to when a friendly coworker said she was thinking about going into therapy after she graduated. I thought she meant as a profession, and she seemed like she'd be good at it, so my response was "Ah, yeah, that makes sense.".
I didn't realize what she meant ("... as a patient") until much later. I still wince when I think about it.
subtoot of various people over the years, about me
Other people, to friends / public: "I like lots of people and [probably | maybe] even you!"
Me: "Yeah, but you don't mean *me*, I'm sure."
Them: "Every. One. Of. You."
Me: "But still, surely not me."
(I still think I'm right. It appears I need explicit indications on this subject.)
