(I believe this has been the case for a while, possibly back to around Unicode 10 when "person" was introduced, but it's somewhat surprising to see that it's *still* the case, lo these many years.)
The Twitter Twemoji (12.1.3) emoji for "people holding hands" (explicitly not gender-specific) is identical to that of "man and woman holding hands". Hrm. (They do have "person", which is its own non-gendered drawing, just not a pair holding hands.)

Met a gentleman who expressed concern that someone else "might be one of those liberals who didn't like hot dogs because they're bad for the environment or something". Shortly thereafter, he revealed he felt people were bad if they didn't properly sort their recyclables.
Takes all kinds, huh?
I appreciate that @LadyMargaret stays on top of new emoji proposals and I don't even have to do anything for the interesting ones to just show up in front of me.
Peter Schilling's "Major Tom" has a lyric:
Across the stratosphere
a final message
give my wife my love
then nothing more
And I'm reasonably sure it's "'Give my wife my love', and then nothing more is heard", which makes sense given the song.
Sometimes I just hear it like a bitter swipe from the poor major: "Give my wife my love, but she gets nothing else.".
PLATO in your browser. Runs on a fridge, too! (Complete with keyboard overlay for touchscreens.)
@LadyMargaret I think(?) there's a way to represent "woman" or "man" as used in combining emoji as a single non-emoji glyph in Unicode. (Do you remember what that was? VS15... before it?)
My real question, though, is whether there is a way to represent "flag combining letter" (e.g. C or A in 🇨🇦) as a non-emoji. Do you know if there is, and if so, how?
(Sorry, I should be able to look this up, but I don't know how off the top of my head. If not I'll dig through the books.)
I have no idea why *this* is what I noticed from tonight's comic, but it's interesting that Sam's mental lightbulb:
* is a downlight (only emits light in the "down" direction, although sometimes that's actually a different angle)
* has an E27 base (which made me look up where QC is set: Northampton, MA) (mostly because I thought maybe Canada somehow, which has a lot of GU10 downlights)
(I suspect this was Jeph aiming for an LED bulb, which that probably is, being too blue for most halogens.)
Surprised at something, I just muttered "what the heckie". I blame @gdkar.
Do you or anyone you know want a 16-computer VGA + PS/2 KVM?
It's https://www.iogear.com/product/GCS1716/ , though I think I only have 12 sets of cables for some reason. I believe it works, but I haven't honestly tested it in many years.
Yours for the cost of shipping from the US midwest.
